Elizabeth Igoe Psychotherapy & Counselling

Psychotherapy

Sometimes, life’s challenges aren’t easily identified. There isn’t always a big crisis moment or catastrophe to alert us to trouble. The change can be slow. Sometimes, it is just a feeling – something’s off, something’s different. Is it you? Is it everyone else? Is it the state of the world?

Maybe your coping skills don’t seem as effective as they used to be, or you’re using them more often than before. Perhaps you’re noticing you’re getting angry with those you love most or that inner critic’s voice is becoming louder and more insistent.

I understand that anxiety, depression, and stress can make seemingly simple things feel overwhelming, cause disruption in your life, and get in the way of being the person you want to be. I work with people who are feeling stuck, who want to make changes in their lives, but aren’t sure how or where to start.

Regardless of the circumstance, I can help you to identify solutions, set boundaries, and manage the stress, anxiety, and depression associated with feelings of loss of control, uncertainty about the future, or feeling stuck. I want to help you increase your self-confidence, build on your existing strengths, and help you find balance so you can be the person you want to be.

I utilize a variety of modalities depending on your presenting issue, preference, and other factors. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), psychodynamic approaches, and solution-focused interventions are used to identify maladaptive patterns in thinking and behaviours that may be keeping you stuck. I aim to equip you with a ‘toolbelt’ of coping skills and ways to challenge your thinking that can be used whenever tough moments arise – both while we’re working together and in the future.

Change can be uncomfortable. Together, we will identify your goals, overcome obstacles, and work at your pace. Discovering your personal ideal balance and providing you with the skills to successfully meet challenges that arise can have positive effects on your personal, professional, and family lives. I look forward to meeting you!
